Polishing is an essential step in the process of  prototype fabrication. There will be knife marks or burrs on the surface, which will lead to the unsmooth surface of the products after the prototype are processed by CNC machining or 3D printed, Therefore, the manual polishing will be required for post-processing.Make the surface of the prototype seems smoothly.

Generally, there are several methods for polishing of prototype, including mechanical polish, dry polish and wet polish. The following is a detailed introduction of these methods:

  1.Mechanical polish: Large object area can be polished by mechanical polish, In order to improve work efficiency such as electric grinding machine or disc and vibration grinding machine.

2.Dry polish: Sand paper is used for polish. It is suitable for grinding hard and brittle lacquer. Its disadvantage is that it will produce a lot of dust during operation, which will affect the environmental hygiene.

3. Wet polish: Sand paper dipped in water or soap water polish. Water polish can reduce wear marks, improve the smoothness of the coating, and save sand paper also save effort. However, when spraying the lower layer of paint after water polish, the spraying can only be carried out after the water polish layer is completely dry.Otherwise the paint layer is easy to white; Additional water absorption is very strong base material also unfavorable water is worn.

There are three main functions of prototype polishing:

     1. To remove the surface of excess burr and burr;

     2.To reduce the smoothness of the prototype surface;

     3 To increase the adhesion of the surface paint.
